It’s #VolunteersWeek! Corporate/skilled volunteering day

Today (Tuesday) is Volunteers’ Week’sCorporate/skilled volunteering day!

Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) is a great week to celebrate and promote all things volunteering. Our Southwark Giving team is passionate about meaningfully maximising and galvanising generosity of people’s time and skills to benefit others.

One of the ways people in and out of the borough can get involved in Southwark Giving is through valuable volunteering. We offer both practical team challenge volunteering and skills-based volunteering – and both are open to anyone – individuals, groups, corporate divisions and alike who either live and/or work in the borough and to anyone who wants to give back to Southwark in this way.

Practical team challenges are an excellent way for groups, including teams of employees, to take time out of the office as a team to invest their time to help a highly effective charity reaching a specific community need. It’s a great way to build and bond a team out of the office whilst doing valuable community good.

Skills-based volunteering is an excellent way to give on a one-off or an ongoing basis to help invest in and impact the lives of disadvantaged people of all ages. Our community need theme of Life Transitions outlines how we target valuable volunteering resources to vulnerable children, young adults and older adults.

If you are someone or a group who would like to invest your time and skills to help unite the borough to tackle local disadvantage, please do get in touch –

Our Southwark Giving volunteer Brennan

A big thank you to Brennan, he ran this year’s London Marathon in aid of our Southwark Giving Fund. Brennan is a Southwark resident and an employee of one of Southwark Giving’s corporate charity partners, Mindbench. He has shared his experience of running his first ever marathon:

“As we turned right across Tower Bridge and towards Canary Wharf, the actual length of the course dawned fully and I felt myself considering what would happen if I gave up”.
