Southwark Giving Pilot Programme

We are pioneering a new programme to test a new model of support. We are offering a package of financial and non-financial resources to effective small local community organisations to help further the impact of their grassroot services.

We focus on the following three key points of transitions in people’s lives to help prevent crisis. For our pioneering new programme, we are proudly supporting the following community organisation, one per priority need, which delivers effective services to those affected by one of our evidenced-based life transition needs.

1. Children aged 10-12 years old at risk of crisis transferring from primary to secondary school

Statistic: Southwark’s child poverty rate is worse than the England average, with 27.6 aged under 16 living in poverty, compared to an England average of 18.6%*

SHINE Mentoring  – A volunteer-led small charity which delivers five mentoring programmes by university students to primary school children in Southwark

2. Young people making life choices aged 16+ years old – with particular focus on looked after children and care leavers

Statistic: Mental health hospital admissions amongst 0-17 year olds in Southwark is higher than the England average (136.1 versus 87.4 per 100,000)*

London Bubble  –  A charity that provides the artistic direction, skills, environment and resources to create inspirational, inclusive, involving theatre, which shares stories that animate the spaces of the city and the spirits of its citizens.

3. Adults unemployed 50-65 years old seeking to secure employment positively preparing for retirement

Statistic: Southwark is higher than the London average (3.2% versus 2.2%) of the proportion of over 50s claiming out-of-work benefits*

Pecan Journey2Work programme  – A charitable programme which provides bespoke thorough support to unemployed job seekers aged 40 yrs+ in Southwark

*All statistics cited from A Tale of Two Southwarks report

The aim of our programme is to see lives positively changed! As we do, we’ll take the insights and learnings from partnering with the three local organisations to help inform and shape our next stage of development.

Our programme will be running over the autumn/winter and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved! Would you like to volunteer your time and skills? Are you an employer looking to visibly support your local community through pro bono or in-kind support? There are so many innovative and creative ways you can get involved so do join us and be part of it!
